Our services range from regional- and basin –scale exploration screening through to in-depth block evaluations and prospects and leads mapping for Bid Rounds and Farm-in and Farm-out Opportunities.

The group has now undertaken numerous in-depth multiclient and proprietary projects, which includes several major exclusive (proprietary) studies that have been underwritten by major oil companies operating in SE Asia. We have now built-up an impressive portfolio of regional- and basin-scale multiclient (non-exclusive) studies that directly reflects current industry focus on a number of key areas of exploration interest in the Asia-Pacific region.

JMJ Petroleum specialises in integrating various datasets using GIS technology, and other state-of-the-art techniques and software.

The datasets we commonly integrate are:

Well and field

Digital topographic and Landsat

Gravity and magnetics

Our consultancy services include:

2D and 3D seismic mapping

Tectonostratigraphic analysis

Structural field mapping

Potential field analysis

Basin (burial history) modelling

Play fairway mapping

JMJ Petroleum and Our Clients

JMJ Petroleum is a multidisciplinary upstream oil and gas consultancy group that specialises in providing a high-level strategic consulting service for major oil and gas companies based in Singapore, SE Asia and across the world (e.g., Houston, Calgary and Europe). As mentioned above, our services range from regional and basin scale exploration screening through to in-depth block evaluations and prospects and leads mapping for Bid Rounds and Farm-in and Farm-out Opportunities.

Managing Director – Dr John M. Jacques

The founder and Managing Director of JMJ Petroleum Group, Dr John Jacques is an Exploration Geologist with over 20 years of experience. He received a Ph.D. in Structural Geology from the University of Durham, U.K., and since then he has worked on numerous regional and global exploration play fairway and petroleum system studies. The objective of these GIS-based studies was to synthesise their tectonic, structural and depositional history in order to summarise proven plays and identify new play concepts as a predictive tool for the assessment of the hydrocarbon potential of each basin. John played a key role in advancing new technical developments in the spatial presentation of geological data used to create this global database, which included regions such as the Circum-South Atlantic, East Africa, Sub-Andean Foreland, Southern Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, Indochina, SE China, and Circum-Arctic. During this time, John took a particular research interest in evaluating and developing regional tectonic models for South America, Gulf of Mexico-Caribbean and South Atlantic, publishing several papers on this subject, which emphasise the importance of tectonics on petroleum system development, and the use of GIS as an important exploration tool. John was also the project manager for a GIS-based digital database that was designed to create a fully consistent, attributed structural and geological digital coverage for the entire globe, with the principal aim of defining all the world‟s sedimentary basins, including their subsidence histories.

Established in August 2004, GETECH‟s Petroleum Systems Evaluation Group (based in the U.K.) was initiated and managed by Dr John Jacques to offer a combination of skills and datasets to assist the upstream oil and gas sector in basin analysis, tectonics, Earth Systems Modelling and petroleum systems evaluation. John‟s team was particularly active in SE Asia, and this success was recognised in 2005, with GETECH being awarded the prestigious “The British Business Awards, 2005 (category „Energy and Utilities‟)” in Singapore. The activities of the Petroleum Systems Evaluation Group placed GETECH in a new business sector within the oil and gas sector and, due to its success, allowed Geophysical Exploration Technology Ltd (GETECH), in September 2005, to successfully float on the London Alternative Investment Market (AIM) to become a public company.

In January 2007, JMJ Petroleum Pte Ltd was incorporated in Singapore, with its sister company – JMJ Petroleum Limited – established prior to this at the end of 2006 in the UK. Since incorporation, the business has continued to grow steadily, resulting in an extensive portfolio of multiclient (non-exclusive) studies covering the following basinal areas: Vietnam; Cambodia; West and East Natuna; Gulf of Thailand; Onshore Thailand; Sumatra; Sabah-Sarawak; East and West Java; Makassar Straits (East Kalimantan); Philippines; Eastern Indonesia-PNG; Timor Leste (East Timor); NW Shelf of Australia; New Zealand; Myanmar; Bangladesh; India; Pakistan; the basins of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan; the Basins of Algeria and Libya; and the Middle East. This extensive, in-depth portfolio of studies and datasets is probably unparalleled by any other geological consultancy for the Asia-Pacific region, and has created a niche market for our services, particularly, in Singapore and across SE Asia.

Dr John Jacques was previously the 1st Vice President of SEAPEX (Singapore Exploration Society), based in Singapore; and since 2010 has been a „Geological Advisor‟ for KrisEnergy, based in Shell House, Singapore.
