Home Fieldwork Brunei-Sarawak

Two conventional (oil and gas) blocks dominate the onshore area of Brunei – Blocks L and M – with exploration activity now spanning over a century. JMJ Petroleum's first involvement (over five years ago) was for the operators of Block M, which included both an in-depth petroleum systems evaluation and play mapping exercise using all available data (e.g., seismic, well, and gravity) and extensive fieldwork. The structural fieldwork was conducted principally in two areas: (1) reconnaissance mapping of the so called ‘Tubei Thrust’ in the somewhat inaccessible southwestern part of the block, close to the Sarawak (Malaysia) border, requiring helicopter support and the use of fly camps; and (2) the Belait Oil Field, with the aim to tie in surface observations with well and 3D seismic data.

Based on the recommendations by the operators of Block M and Petroleum Brunei (PB), exactly the same block evaluation study has been undertaken for Block L. This also culminated in several separate phases of fieldwork, largely concentrated on the Jerudong Field and associated anticlinal and fault structures. Again, with the aim to tie in the surface observations with well and recently acquired 3D seismic data.
